Hola gente! Bueno aca les traigo un megapost del mejor(para mi) cantante de reggae. Busque haber si habia en Taringa de el y hay muy poco y muchos links no andan asique me voy a tomar el pequeño trabajo de aportar 34 CD's de Don Carlos. Espero que les guste







Nacido el 29 de Junio de 1952 como Euvin Spencer en Waterhouse. un barrio del distrito de Kingston, de donde salieron King Tubby, los Black Uhuru y Junior Reid, entre muchos otros grandes artistas. Don Carlos explica el origen de su apodo: “Simplemente surgió. Originalmente mi madre mi decía Carlos, y mis amigos me agregaron Don, así que es un nombre que llevo desde que soy muy chico.”
La leyenda se inicia en la década del 60 en el grupo Dub Plates. Don recuerda esa época con cariño: “Los ´60 fueron una época linda, había más unión entre la gente. A partir de 1976, la política empezó a separar a la gente de sus expresiones. Y los jóvenes, al ser más influenciables, fueron las flechas que los políticos usaron contra los rastas, a los que nunca iban a poder cambiar. Los rastas siguieron siempre ahí. Los jóvenes fueron perdiendo la dirección, se volvieron cada vez más materialistas y despreciaron sus propias tradiciones.” Pero su fama trasciende fronteras en 1973 cuando funda la agrupación “Black Uhuru” (palabra que proviene del swahili y que significa “libertad”), junto con Rudolph “Garth” Dennis y Derrick “Duckie” Simpson. “Black Uhuru se formó en los inicios de la década del ´70. Garth Dennis era un cantante de esa área. El creció en Trenchtown con Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Wailing Souls, entre otros. En un punto de su vida se mudó a Waterhouse y decidió iniciarse en la música. Después Duckie Simpson se mudó a la misma área con Dennis, y comenzaron a cantar juntos. “Un día Dennis se me acercó y me dijo: Don, mi bredda y yo estamos formando un grupo y nos dimos cuenta que necesitamos un tercer hombre, ¿estas dispuesto a unirte? Yo dije que si y así fue como empezaron las cosas.”
Don jugó un papel muy importante en la grabación de aclamado álbum “Love Crisis”, producido por Prince Jammy en 1977, mas tarde re-editado bajo el nombre de “Black Sounds of Freedom”.
Al cabo de dos años “Black Uhuru” sufrió su primer cambio de integrantes, Dennis se integró al grupo “The Wailing Souls” y Don abandonó la banda para comenzar con su carrera solista.
Desde muy joven Don Carlos abrazó la fe rastafari. “Alrededor de los 12 años adopte el rastafarismo. Desde que tengo uso de razón siento una profunda emoción por la gente. Yo amo a las personas, pero antes que todo, amo a Dios. Siempre intento hacer las cosas bien. Yo leo mucho la Biblia y me involucro con los profetas que aparecen en ella. Por eso soy una persona que siente un profundo amor por lo que es correcto. Conocer a Rastafari me fortaleció.”
En Mayo de 1981 lanzó su primer disco solista “Suffering” para Negus Roots, el cual superó el millón de copias vendidas. Algunos de los temas que integran el disco son: “Gimme Gimme Your Love”, “Jah Hear My Plea” y “Working Everyday”.
Desde que comenzó su carrera solista estuvo acompañado por Goldie, compositor y vocalista con el que compartió doce albums. En la actualidad Don Carlos no trabaja junto a él. “En 1998 le dispararon a Gold en E.E.U.U. Quedó paralítico y con problemas en el habla.”
El año 1982 fue un año fructífero para Don Carlos, ya que editó cuatro álbums:
• “Harvest Time” (“Tiempo de Cosecha”) para el sello Negus Roots. El álbum presenta el clásico roots-rock-reggae, y las líricas de las canciones varían desde lo espiritual/Rastafari como en “I Love Jah”, la cultura dancehall como en "Music Crave" y las mujeres como es el caso de “Young Girl”.
• “Day To Day Living” para el sello discográfico Greensleeves y producido por Henry “Junjo” Lawes. En los diez tracks que componen al álbum, la dulce voz de Don Carlos es acompañada por Root Radics Band. Algunas de las canciones que componen el álbum son: “Hey Mr. Babylon”, “Street Life” y “Hog and Goat”.
• “Them Never Know Natty Dread Have Him Credential” con el sello discográfico Hit Bound. Entre la lista de 15 tracks nos encontramos con el tema que le dio nombre al álbum y con el que entro en el mercado estadounidense “Natty Dread Have Him Credential”, “Black Out In The Ghetto” y “Roots Rock Party”, entre otros.
• “Roots & Culture” con el sello discográfico Jah Guidance. Este trabajo cuenta con dos backing bands: “Roots Radics Band” y “The High Times Band” y combina en cada lado del vinilo a Don Carlos y Joseph Hill - Culture
En el año 1983 editó tres trabajos: “Raving Tonight” para el sello Ras Label, “Pure Gold” acompañado de la backing band “The Aggrovators” y “Spread Out” (también conocido como “Laser Beam”), el cual cuenta con canciones nuevas como: “Praise Jah With Love And Affection”, “Just Groove With Me”, “Ababa John I”, además de los temas que titulan la placa.
Al año siguiente Don Carlos continuo con su arduo labor y lanzó al mercado: “Plantation” que tiene como invitado a Charlie Chaplin en el tema “Leggo My Short Gate Man” y en “Unity is Strength”
“Never Run Away” para el sello Kingdom, “Just A Passing Glance” (Ras Label) entre los diez tracks que componen el álbum están: “You are my sunshine”, “I Just Can´t Stop” y el tema que le da nombre al disco “Just A Passing Glance”, tema autobiográfico que cuenta cuando Hallie Sellasie Ilega a Jamaica.
“Desafortunadamente no llegue al aeropuerto, pero se podía sentir las vibraciones por todos lados, sabes?, así que fue como si hubiese estado ahí” cuenta Don Carlos.
También lanzó “Show-Down Vol 3” editado por el sello Empire y por Channel One para los Estados Unidos, que une canciones de Don Carlos y The Gladiators.
En 1985 editó dos trabajos “Rasta Brothers” (sello Dancefloor), el álbum cuenta con canciones como: “Three Little Words” y “Jordan River”. Del mismo año es el álbum “Prophecy”, que cuenta con canciones como: “Jah Hear My Plea” una plegaria personal a Jah para que auxilie a los que sufren y están perdidos en Babilonia, y “Crucial Situation” o “Working Everyday” ambas canciones tratan acerca de la pobreza y sus resultados.
Entre 1986 y 1988 editó “Firehouse Clash” (1986/Live & Learn) que reúne canciones de Don Carlos y Junior Reid; “Deeply Concerned” (1987/Ras Label),
“Ghetto Living” (1988/Tamoki Wambesi Label) en el que se incluye un cover del tema de “The Abyssinians”, “Declaration of Rights”.
Otro trabajo realizado entre éstos años fue “Prison Oval Clash” (1988/Tamoki Wambesi Label): incluye temas de Don Carlos & Goldie, Charlie Chaplin y Earl Cunningham.
1989 fue el año que marco la reunión del trío vocal con su formación original de Black Uhuru: Don Carlos, Derrick “Duckie” Simpson y Rudolph “Garth” Dennis.
Previamente la banda había sufrido varios cambios en el rol de voz líder: Michael Rose (1977-84) y Junior Reid (1986-87).
Después de seis años (1989-1994) y cuatro álbums (“Now”, “Mystical Truths”, “Iron Storm” y “Strong”), los cuales todos fueron nominados para los premios Grammy, Don Carlos abandonó la banda y retomó su carrera solista. Pero sin dudas había dejado un nuevo gran legado en la mística Black Uhuru y en los oídos del mundo reggae.
Entre 1992-1997 Don Carlos editó: “Time Is The Master” (1992/Ras Label) con temas como “Sweet Africa” y “Rivers of Babylon”, “The Mighty Diamonds Meets Don Carlos & Gold at The Channel One Studio” (1993/Graylan Label), “Ease Up” (1994/Ras Label), “Lazer Beam” (1995/Laggon) compilación que reúne temas de los años 1982-1983 y “Ras Portraits” (1997/ Compilación de Ras Labels).
En 1998 el álbum “Seven Days A Week” sale a la luz de la mano del sello discográfico Ras Labels. Reconocido como uno de sus mejores trabajos solitas ya que despliega su talentosa voz a lo largo de los trece tracks que integran el álbum, entre los cuales se encuentran: “Movin´(To The Top)” “Baby You Know”, “Sunshine” y “Africa”.
Un año mas tarde sale “Groove With Me” con el sello Orange Street. La colección de tracks roots que componen este álbum son los que Don Carlos grabó con Bunny Wailer como productor en la década del ¨80, usando como backing bands a “The Aggrovators” y “Sly & Robbie's Revolutionaries”.
Entre los años 2000 y 2002 salieron varias compilaciones; con el sello discográfico Dressed To Kill: “Dub Versión” (2000), “Don Carlos Rub A Dub Series” (2001), “Reggae & Ska Twin Pack” (2002); del sello Edel: “Head To Head” (2001); del sello Black Arrow “Jah Light” y de la mano de 2b1 sale el DVD “Live In San Francisco” (2002), entre otras.
A su vez en el año 2002, Don Carlos estuvo trabajando junto a “The Congos” y a la banda californiana “Groundation” para llevar a cabo el álbum “Hebron´s Gate” (Young Tree Records).
La carrera solista de Don Carlos, hasta el momento, ha dejado mas de veinte albums. Su dulce voz, mezclada con un estilo propio de Waterhouse (lugar de nacimiento) y líricas armoniosas, combinados con su potente energía hacen que cada canción sea inolvidable. Su pasión y su fuerza son una inspiración para todo aquel que lo escuche.
